Prof. Emmanuel K. Ngwainmbi is a UNESCO Fellow, Lifetime Fellow at the International Society for Development and Sustainability, a Distinguished Professor of International Communication, and former Director, International Education Programs and a member of the International Association for Media, Communication, and Research (IAMCR), the International Association of Intercultural Communication Studies (IAICS), the National Communication Association (NCA) International Conference on Social Sciences (ICSS), and many others. A Senior Independent Communication Expert who has worked for various international development organizations, including United Nations agencies, Prof. Ngwainmbi serves on the editorial boards of some 14 peer-reviewed journals in communication and other social sciences. He has taught communication and research in Africa, Asia, Europe, and the United States, including George Washington University and North Carolina, Charlotte. Before joining the United Nations as a communication and advocacy consultant, he was Director of International Programs and Head of the Department of Language, Literature & Communication at Elizabeth City State University in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. He has served on the Department of Communication Studies faculty at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte, and a Senior Editor at Wells Fargo Bank, Prof. Ngwainmbi has held senior positions in some regional, national, and international organizations 35-years’ experience in publishing. He has more thanr 40 years of experience researching, teaching, and managing communication programs world; profiled on the roster of international development experts. Prof. Ngwainmbi has developed projects for 170 countries, and trained personnel on communication styles at the US Foreign Institute and US Naval Academy. He has been a senior consultant for 15 United Nations Agencies, the African Development Bank, African Union, NEPAD, Bank of America, and Wells Fargo. His writings are translated into Mandarin, French, Spanish, Afrikaans, Portuguese, Amharic, German, among others. His latest edited book Challenges and Approaches to Health Messaging in the Global South: Cases from Covid-19. He has been described as a Contemporary Social Scientist.
Academic credits include Departmental Teacher of the Year. He is listed among Who is Who Among America’s Teachers ©, the United Nations Consultants roster, Communication and Development professionals UNESCO, UNFPA, UNDP, and other Rosters. Recipient of the Distinguished Professorial Award Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Distinguished Speaker Award, he delivers keynote speeches at international meetings, lectures in universities across Africa, Asia, Europe, South America, and the United States. He has authored 26 books and numerous articles so far in journals, magazines, newspapers, and encyclopaedias. Some of his works are translated into Mandarin, French, Spanish, Afrikaans, and German. Among his publishers are Roman & Littlefield, the Washington Review, Lynne Reiner, Routledge, Sage, Greenwood Press, university presses, and Palgrave Macmillan. His most recent edited volumes include Covid-19 Misinformation : Options for Reconstructing and Disseminating Mediated Messages (Routledge, 2025); Social Media, Youth, and the Global South: Comparative Perspectives (Palgrave, 2024); Theory, Practice, and Guidelines for Communicating Health and Pandemics in Africa (Cambridge Scholars Pub. 2022); Compromised Identities: How Social Media dismantles ethnic identity and national borders (Palgrave, 2022); Media in the Global Context: Applications and Interventions (Palgrave, 2019). Other recent books include The Unpaid Brideprice (Mvuaa Press, 2025); and Leap in the Dark (Koehler Books). He is also the Volume Editor of Citizenship, Democracies, and Media Engagement among Emerging Economies and marginalized communities (Palgrave MacMillan, 2017); and co-author of Fulton Sheen as a Contemporary Humanist (Cambridge Scholars, 2022); Social Media, Youth and Global South (Palgrave, 2024); and Communicating Epidemics Globally: News Framing, Government Propaganda and Social Conditioning (Palgrave, forthcoming, 2026). Prof. Ngwainmbi has received critical acclaim for his writings and other awards in journalism and the social sciences from the Chinese Academy for Social Sciences, the Family Christian Association of America, among others, for his contribution to the social sciences and cited by a Nobel Laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Pulitzer Prize winner Gwendolyn Brooks, and leading African-American Social Scientists Molefi Kete Asante and Blyden Jackson. Prof Ngwainmbi was a guest on West Africa Democracy Radio and many radio and cable television programs across the US, Europe, and Africa, where he has spoken about preserving local cultures in the wake of globalization. After his provocative article on intellectual disparities between African, Afro-Americans, and other professors appeared in Black Issues in Higher Education, he gets invited by non-profit organizations to discuss African and African American relations.
